Hace 6 años comenzó el Axel como un HOTEL GAY que quería llegar a ser el EL MEJOR DEL MUNDO. Su propietario Juan Juliá decía que quéría que su hotel representara los valores del mundo gay. Se supone que esos valores son los que han permitido avanzar al movimiento gay desde hace cuarenta años cuando comenzó el movimiento de resistencia de Stonewall bajo el símbolo del arcoiris. Estamos hablando de: no discriminación, tolerancia, solidaridad, igualdad y otras cosas que hicieron que los gays dejáramos de ser marginados y censurados por la sociedad y unos ciudadanos de segunda para ser visibles y salir a la luz pública sin miedo a la represión y a la persecución que sufrimos en el pasado. Eso es lo que se supone que tenía que hacer realidad el Axel como hotel gay. Si no no tenía sentido llamarse gay. Y así fue durante un tiempo porque el Axel en poco tiempo se hizo lider en el mundo gay gracias a que había muy buen rollo. Los clientes venían porque se sentían en casa y porque había buen ambiente. Los trabajadores transmitían buenas vibraciones. Había buena sintonía entre clientes y empleados y con los jefes. Daba gusto hospedarse en el Axel. Daba gusto trabajar en el Axel. Era de verdad una empresa diferente. Y eso lo notaban también los de fuera. Durante un tiempo el Axel fue la referencia del ambiente y el corazón del gayxample.
Pero todo eso es historia vieja. Ese Axel murió hace ya algunos meses. Mejor dicho comenzó a morir hace más tiempo. Cuando Juan Juliá comenzó a cambiar y empezó a marcar distancias. Cuando entraba en el hotel y ya no saludaba como antes. Cuando echaba broncas terribles en medio de cenas de empresa que se suponían que eran momentos de compañerismo y camaradería. Cuando empezó a alzar la nariz y a creerse dios. Hace dos o tres años tuvo la idea de reunir a todos los empresarios del gayxample para hablar de como potenciar el ambiente. Todos salieron de la reunión con la desagradable impresión de haber escuchado a un arrogante que solo le interesaba figurar por encima de ellos y que tenía el atrevimiento de pretender darles lecciones a ellos que muchos llevaban bastantes más años que él en el sector. La soberbia de Juan Juliá subió como la espuma a medida que le hacían reportages y le concedían reconocimientos públicos. Lástima que todo empezara a ser ya una mentira. No se sabe lo que pasó. Si le dio una locura repentina o un cambio de personalidad. O si simplemente se quitó la máscara y en realidad nunca había creido en nada de lo que predicaba y todo fue una trampa muy bien inventada para engañar a la gente y montarse un hotel a costa de las ilusiones de mucha gente que creyó en su proyecto.
Es necesario que se sepa la verdad de todo lo que ultimamente está pasando con el Axel. Lo dicho: el Axel que una vez existió murió, desapareció, está difunto. Y no es otro que Juan Juliá el que lo ha matado. Comenzó desaciéndose de sus mejores colaboradores sin perdonar que alguno de ellos hubiera sido amigo de toda la vida. A partir de entonces en los últimos seis meses ha hecho desaparecer la más mínima huella de lo que el Axel fue alguna vez. No le ha temblado el pulso a la hora de sentenciar al paro en tiempo de crisis a la gente a la que tanto juraba querer y favorecer. Ha puesto a un hetero al frente de su cadena para que le haga el trabajo sucio y este señor está cumpliendo el encargo con creces porque más mala leche no se puede tener en esta vida. No se sabe si es homófobo pero actua como si lo fuera. Es despótico, intolerante y dictador. Eso es lo que ahora Juan Juliá entiende como valores de un hotel supuestamente gay, "el mejor hotel gay del mundo" (ja ja ja!).
Ahora ya no le importa que a sus empleados los expriman, que se haya reducido a mínimos la plantilla para "ahorrar", mientras el Axelcorp tiene inflación de personal cobrando sueldos de escándalo con dietas faraonicas mientras los pobres que se han quedado, es decir que han sobrevivido a la masacre laboral tienen que trabajar el doble y el triple y tratar de contentar a una clientela cada vez más defraudada. Porque esa es otra. La calidad ha bajado a mínimos. Lo puede comprobar cualquiera que se de una vuelta por el Axel o que tenga la mala idea de alojarse allí. Aquello se ha convertido en una pensión de la Rambla. Como lo que le interesa a Juan Juliá es solo la rentabilidad, los standardes están por los suelos. El Axel solo se salva por el personal que le queda (y no todo). Pero ni eso va a durar seguramente porque ya son muchos los que piensan que Juan Juliá está haciendo todo lo que está haciendo a posta para terminarse de cargar al viejo Axel y empezar de cero con el nuevo que piensa hacer con la ampliación que ha proyectado para el año que viene. Es probable que haga alguna trampa seudolegal para fundar otro negocio hotelero con una plantilla completamente nueva, sumisa, explotada y que no se sentirá engañada porque nada le habrá prometido como a los antiguos. Hay que compadecer a los que se han quedado dentro. Esos son los que están pagando ya las consecuencias de la nueva política de Juan Juliá. Los demás al menos ya no tenemos que soportar su hipocresía ni sus desplantes de niño rico malcriado ni su creimiento.
Se podrían contar docenas de historias personales que son dramas ocasionados por la mala baba del señor Juan Juliá y del que le limpia la mierda. Pero hay una especialmente fatal que deja retratados a estos personajes con la falta de humanidad y la insesnibilidad que tienen. Un camarero que trabajaba en el Axel de Barcelona fue enviado al de Berlín para trabajar en unas condiciones mejores que en Barcelona. Se le prometió ayudarle a buscar piso y tramitar sus papeles. Desde que llegó este chico lo hicieron trabajar jornadas de doce horas y más en un ambiente de mandoneo y explotación. Como no le ayudaron a buscar piso como le prometieron estaba ocupando provisionalmente una habitación del hotel. Cuando lo supo Juan Juliá hizo que su capataz lo echara a la calle para que no ocupara una de sus habitaciones. Este chico se quedó sin tener donde ir y sin poder pagarse una pensión porque no tenía tampoco dinero pues tampoco le habían pagado. Si no es por un antiguo compañero que le hechó una mano se las hubiera pasado más canutas todavía. Esa es la calidad humana de Juan Juliá. Dejar tirado a un empleado suyo enmedio de de la calle. Muy bonito. Muy solidario y muy gay sobre todo. Así se tratan los gays unos a otros. Claro lo que pasa es que entre los gays hay clases y Juan Juliá no se mezcla con gays de clase trabajadora. No ve en ellos a compañeros sino a gente que puede exprimir y ya está.
Digamoslo claro, alto y fuerte: Juan Juliá estará en su derecho de sacar el provecho que quiera de su empresa, pero no tiene ya ningún derecho a seguir utilizando el nombre de gay. El Axel de hoy nada tiene que ver con los ideales gays con los que empezó. Seguir llamándose hotel gay es una burla, una cruel ironía y un engaño. Por muchos premios que le den a Juan Juliá. Por cierto mañana es el día del orgullo gay. Desenmascarar a quien usurpa el nombre de gay es una buena manera de festejarlo, no creeis?
BUT THIS IS THE TRUE
Six years ago the Axel began as a GAY HOTEL that wanted to be THE BEST IN THE WORLD. The owner Juan Juliá said he wanted his hotel to represent the values of the gay world. It supposes these values are to permit that the gay movement advance that which 40 years ago began with the resistance movement of Stonewall under the rainbow symbol. We are talking about: no discrimination, tolerance, solidarity, equality and other things that made that the gays we stopped being marginalized and censored by society and stopped being second class citizens to be visible and come out to the public light without fear of repression and the persecution we suffered in the past. This is what it supposes that the Axel had to make reality as a gay hotel. And it was like this during a time because the Axel in little time made itself leader in the gay world thanks to the good feelings there were. The clients came because they felt at home and there was a good ambience. The workers transmitted good vibrations. There was a good relationship between the clients and the workers and with the managers. It was nice to stay at the Axel. It was nice to work at the Axel. It was truly a different company. And this was noticed also by those from outside. During a time the Axel was the reference point of the gay scene and the heart of the gayxample.
But all this is old history. This Axel died a few months ago. Or rather it began to die some time before. When Juan Juliá began to change and be more distant. When he came in the hotel and did not say hello like before. When he told people off in the middle of company dinners where it is supposed they were moments of companierism and camaradery. When he began to hold his nose high and believe himself to be God. Two or three years ago he had the idea to reunite all the empresarios of the gayxample to talk about how to make the best of the scene. Everyone left the meeting with the unpleasant impression of having heard an arrogant man who believes himself above them and who had the audacity to intend to give them lessons to those who hold many more years in the sector. The arrogance of Juan Juliá rose like the foam as he gave more interviews and got more public recognition. It is a pity that everything already began to be a lie. It is not known what happened. If he had a sudden madness or a change of personality. Or if simply he took off the mask and in reality never believed in anything which he preached and everything was a trap very well invented to deceive to the people and set up a hotel at the cost of many people's dreams who believed in his project.It is necessary to know the truth of everything that lately has happened with the Axel. As said: the Axel that once existed has died, disappeared, is difunct. And it is no other than Juan Juliá who has killed it. He began getting rid of his best collaborators without pardoning that some of them were life-long friends. Since then in the last six months he has made to disappear the smallest print of that which the Axel once was. He did not hesitate to sentence to unemployment in times of crisis the people who so much he swore to like and favour. He put a heterosexual at the head of his chain to do his dirty work and this man is fulfilling the post admirably because more malevolence in this life is impossible to have. It is not known if he is a homophobe but he acts as if one. He is despotic, intolerant and a dictator. This is what Juan Juliá now understands as the values of a supposedly gay hotel, "the best gay hotel in the world" (Ha ha ha!).Now it does not matter to him that his workers are squeezed like lemons, that the work force is reduced to a minimum to "save" while in Axelcorp there is an inflation of personnel charging scandalous salaries with Pharoanic expense allowances while the poor people who remain, that is to say, who have survived the labour massacre have to work the double or the triple and try to content a clientele each time more disappointed. Because that is another thing. The quality has fallen to minimum. Anyone can prove it by going around the Axel or having the bad idea to stay there. It has converted to a hostal on the Rambla. As that which interests Juan Juliá is only the profit return, the standards are on the floor. The Axel only saves itself for its staff who remain (and not all). But even this will not last surely because now there are many who think that Juan Juliá is doing all he is doing to deliberately finish getting rid of the old Axel and start from zero with the new one he hopes to open with the extension projected for next year. It is probable that he makes some pseudolegal trap to start another hotel business with a completely new staff, submissive, exploited and who will not feel mistreated because they will not be promised anything like the old staff were promised. You have to feel sorry for those who still remain inside. Those are the ones paying the consequences of the new policy of Juan Juliá. The rest at least we do not have to support the hipocracy or his whims of badly brought-up rich kid or his big headedness.
Dozens of personal stories can be told which are dramas brought about by the bad nature of Mr Juan Juliá and those who clean his shit. But there is one particularly bad one which leaves these people stained with a lack of humanity and insensitivity. A waiter who worked in Axel Barcelona was sent to Berlin to work with better conditions than in Barcelona. They promised to help him find an appartment and process his paperwork. From the moment he arrived this boy was made to work 12 hours days in an atmosphere of bossing around and exploitation. Since they did not help him find an appartment as they promised him he was temporarily occupying a room at the hotel. When Juan Juliá found this out he ordered his head man there to throw him out on the street so as not to occupy a room. This boy was left with nowhere to live and without being able to pay a hostal or hotel because they had not paid him either. If it was not for an old colleague who helped him he would have had a lot more problems. This is the human quality of Juan Juliá. Throwing an employee of his literally out in the street. Very nice. Very solidarity and above all very gay. This is how gays treat one another. It is clear that among gays there are classes and Juan Juliá does not mix with the working class gays. He does not see in them colleagues only people to exploit and that is that.
Let's say it clear, loud and strong: Juan Juliá is within his rights to make the best he can out of his company, but he now has no right to be using the name gay. The Axel today has nothing more to do with the gay ideals with which it was started. To still call itself a gay hotel is a farce, a cruel irony and a rip-off. And it doesn't matter how many awards they give Juan Juliá. Of course tomorrow is Gay Pride Day. Unmasking someone who usurps the name gay is a good way to celebrate it, don't you think?
